October 31, 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Chapel. This event, in the eyes of many historians, marked the beginning of the end of the Holy Roman Empire because it led people to openly question the unification of church and state.
