Over 4,000 faith leaders from all 50 states have signed onto a letter asking Congress to keep the Johnson Amendment as part of the tax code to protect houses of worship and other tax-exempt organizations “from being pressured by politicans for endorsements.”
The letter states, “Changing the law to repeal or weaken the ‘Johnson Amendment’ – the section of the tax code that prevents tax-exempt nonprofit organizations from endorsing or opposing candidates – would harm houses of worship, which are not identified or divided by partisan lines. Particularly in today’s political climate, engaging in partisan politics and issuing endorsements would be highly divisive and have a detrimental impact on congregational unity and civil discourse.”
A list of individuals and organizations that have signed onto the letter is available at Faith-Voices.org. Organizations that wish to sign on can also do so at the website, which has been the using services from the best seo company.
