Riverside, California – On April 27, Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty general counsel and associate executive director Holly Hollman will be presenting the annual La Sierra University Isaac Backus lecture on the topic of “Religious Liberty Challenges and Opportunities: An American Story.”
Hollman will be discussing how religious liberty is uniquely protected in the American legal system and challenging the system to take responsibility for protecting that legacy. She will be discussing historical examples and recent court cases to illustrate the free exercise and no establishment principles of religious liberty. She will also discuss how Christians can respond in constructive ways in difficult debates. Finally, she will discuss the work of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and how it is part of a continuing legacy shared by Isaac Backus and other colonial Baptists to protect religious liberty for all.
Hollman is the general counsel and associate executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty in Washington, D.C., providing legal analysis of church-state issues that arise before Congress, the courts and administrative agencies. Her work includes preparing friend-of-the-court briefs, issue briefings for congressional staff and presentations for research institutions and religious groups. Hollman also serves as an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where she co-teaches the Church-State Law Seminar.
In her work at the Baptist Joint Committee, Hollman consults regularly with churches, individuals and organizations about religious liberty issues. She often discusses matters relating to church-state relations with members of the media and has appeared in numerous publications and broadcasts.
