This is from Focus on the Family’s Citizenlink.
“For years, the retail industry has made a steady move to secularize the Christmas season. Many national retailers refuse to even use the word “Christmas” in their promotions. Focus on the Family Action has been monitoring this trend, which is part of a larger movement to purge Christian references from the public square.”
It is an amusing video, but the message is clear – retailers should be commercializing Christmas, not just the “holidays.” At this time of year, all retailers should be Christian or at least not offend Christians by recognizing other celebrations of the holiday season. Apparently FOTF believes that the “Christian” (not “Judeo-Christian”) majority should prevail and if you don’t like it, find another country.
The whole thing is silly! Surely those educated men know that it started out as a pagan celebration and not much has changed on that score. Reminds me of the lipstick on a pig. You can call it Christ’s birthday, you can attend church and sing some songs about His birth and you can wish one and all a very merry Christmas, but it just doesn’t change the fact that it is the Winter Solstice. The logs on the fire have a pagan meaning, the fir tree has meaning and so too the things that are hung on the tree. The wreaths, the presents and even old St Nick. It is all pagan.
And having said that, it can be a really fun time for the family and friends. Or it can be the most awful day with drinking and fighting and abuse going on. In some families it is a day that is dreaded.
When I was a child, the church was not decorated. Today churches are full of beautiful decorations and trees with lights. It is really a huge expense. And I think it is an imposition to ask people to take time from their busy life to go decorate the church. I really feel what decorations that are done are nicer when they are simple.
I have just been decorating my home. And each year I do less. I no longer send out cards. I have not bought a tree in several years. It is such an expense, and it is such a job. Putting stuff up, putting the regular stuff away, then taking it down and packing it away. I’m just really sick of it.
I don’t have little mangers with Mary and Joseph and baby with angels and shepherds but I do have a lot of Santas that people have given me. (Why I don’t know). As a Christian I really don’t look at Christmas in anyway as a religious day. It is just a time to gather friends and family and have a good meal. But even that is getting to be too much.
We are not giving out presents this year. We told the family that we are going to buy goats this year through ADRA. My husband is very excited about doing that and has even talked some of his friends into doing the same. Now that is something that I can get excited about.

LOL… I have to laugh! I read my post and I sound like a Grinch!
Happy Holidays.

Why ya buying goats? I don’t know what I’d do with one.

These people are deluded. The Winter Solstice has been celebrated for thousands of years before their messiah (who probably never existed and certainly didn’t come back from the dead) was born. The Church stuck his birthday on December the 25th to coincide with pre-existing pagan celebrations and override them; to convert the populace, plain and simple. It’s historical FACT, but they’ll argue until the proverbial cows come home that their MYTHOLOGY is more important. The mass of Christ? Please, spare me.

I see what the point of the video is: It’s okay to materialistically consume ourselves to death as long as we do it in the name of Christ?! Ridiculous. To equate shopping and the approval thereof to the religious purpose of a holiday misses the mark of critical analysis. You can buy anything at any time in America because we live in the most commercialized country in the world. You can also celebrate Christ’s birthday and what He’s done for you every day. What’s more pagan than teaching your toddler how to say, “I’m Joe the plumber and I approve this message?” Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, of course.

Christian or not, celebrating “Christmas” or the “Holidays” seems like splitting hairs to me. Why should we expect the commercial industry to carry the Christian agenda? The reasons these stores are in business is to make money, not shoulder the load for Christians who feel like imposing their vernacular.

I think that if we just stopped believing in any gods or magical beings the world would be a better place. Only a complete moron would think that god is real. When you die nothing happens, you don’t go anywhere, you simply cease to exist. SO WAKE UP!
