Look at the sheer, tragic absurdity of our modern public witness. Every single time a civic commission meets or a policy paper appears, a panicked, Pavlovian bell rings across the Adventist internet. We immediately drop to our knees, not in desperate, soul-shattering prayer to the Creator whose glory fills the heavens, but to type breathless, hysterical public comments warning that the 1888 Blair Amendment has risen from the dead to drag us all to prison by nightfall. We fancy ourselves standing in the noble, bloody lineage of the martyrs. We picture emperors, popes, and presidents whispering our names in darkened corridors. But let us tell the plain, unvarnished truth: our neighbors do not hate us. Most of them have never heard of us. We are driving a massive wedge between ourselves and other earnest Christians over a phantom persecution complex, screaming nineteenth-century grievances into secular administrative dockets while the actual world collapses beneath the weight of real spiritual famine.
