A marriage registrar was harassed for refusing to conduct same-sex ceremonies, a tribunal has ruled.
Lillian Ladele, who said the civil partnership ceremonies went against her Christian faith, hailed the decision as a “victory for religious liberty”.
The tribunal ruled that Miss Ladele was discriminated against on grounds of religious beliefs and was harassed.
Islington council said it was “disappointed” and was considering an appeal against the ruling.

Miss Ladele said she was being effectively forced to choose between her religion and her £31,000-a-year job as a result.
She said she was picked on, shunned and accused of being homophobic for refusing to carry out civil partnerships.

I think that the lady should have been required to fulfill her civil job. She was accused of being homophobic because her actions were homophobic. There are many jobs available in which her religious beliefs wouldn’t get in the way of others exercising their civil rights. I think that we should remember that the Bible says, “Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.” If you disagree with what your government job requires you to do, then you shouldn’t take their coin.

I think the tribunal made the right decision. Would you say a court should force a vegetarian to slaughter animals if they didn’t think they would have to when they took their job? Another registrar can do the same-sex marriages. There’s no reason to force her to do it.
I agree with the tribunal ruling, the women should not have to perform civil unions if she feels uncomfortable with them. Nor should she be out of a job for refusing to do so. I find it ironic that those in favor of civil unions will push their agenda so far that they begin to stomp on the liberties and beliefs of other groups and that they feel that it is their right to do so.

I also agree with the tribunal. Other people could be found to do the ceremony if she feels that it would be against her religious beliefs. People should not be allowed to push their agenda about personal freedom at the expense of the freedom of others to choose to follow their beliefs.
